Geography Day Recap
Today Lee held Geography Day - students got to learn all about the Czech Republic through interactive stations and presentations. A huge thank you to Sheer Nisman for chairing this event!
The morning kicked off with a presentation from Brian Vanicek, Honorary Consul of The Czech Republic. Then Adrien Smith and Kameryn Guilbeau from UT presented some fun facts about the Czech Republic and gave an age-appropriate interactive storytelling presentation from Jewish folklore about the Golem of Prague.
Marina Garfield, a UT student, led students in a craft involving air dry clay - creating their own Golem figures. Students came up with their own “protector/superhero" ideas and shaped them out of clay.
Students also sampled various Czech foods - they were greeted at the cafeteria doors with a piece of bread to dip in a container of salt - a traditional Slavic symbol of greeting and hospitality, then sampled bowls of pickled veggies, fruit kolaches and paprika chips.
Students received a "passport" with a stamp from the Czech Republic. These keepsakes will be stored at school and get a new stamp from each country every year. Students will be able to take them home when they graduate.
Special thanks to the 6th graders for making amazing signs, maps and pictures that were hung around the school and helping facilitate activities. Thanks to all of our parent volunteers and of course our amazing staff for making today happen!
